چکیده

Sediment mass-balance analysis provides key constraints on stratigraphic architecture and its controls. We use the data-rich Middle Jurassic Brent Delta sediment routing system in proto-Viking Graben, Northern North Sea, to estimate budgets between source areas depositional sinks. Published studies are synthesised provide an age-constrained sequence framework, consisting of four previously defined genetic sequences (J22, J24, J26, J32). Genetic J32 (3.9 Myr) records transverse progradation basin-margin deltas, sourced from Shetland Platform west Norwegian Landmass east. J24 (1.1 J26 (0.9 record rapid subsequent aggradation along basin axis, uplifted Mid-North Sea High south, western eastern regions. (2.2 retreat Delta. for estimated using palaeogeographical reconstructions, isopach maps, sedimentological core well-log data. The net-depositional budget mapped is 2.0–2.8 Mt/year. Temporal variations were driven by changes tectonic boundary conditions, such as onset uplift before deposition J24. Over same time period, Platform, regions have supplied 2.3–5.6, 5.0–14.1, 2.8–9.4 Mt/year sediment, respectively, BQART load model independent geometrical reconstruction eroded volumes, which constrained isostatic estimates based geochemistry syn-depositional volcanic rocks. sink order-of-magnitude smaller than total (13.9–23 Mt/year). This discrepancy suggests that along-shore transport wave-generated currents into coeval Faroe-Shetland Basin and/or down-dip gravity flows Møre played a role redistributing sediments away system.

Long-term sediment accumulation in the Middle Jurassic–early Eocene Cordilleran retroarc foreland-basin system

The late Middle Jurassic–early Eocene (;120 m.y.) sediment-accumulation history of the Cordilleran foreland basin in northern Utah exhibits a sigmoidal pattern on a rate vs. time plot, with moderate rates of accumulation during late Middle Jurassic, very low net rates during Late Jurassic–earliest Cretaceous, increasingly rapid rates during Earlymiddle Cretaceous, and low rates during Late Cret...

Agents and contexts in exclusiveness of public shoreline Middle shoreline of Caspian Sea North of Iran

Because of the suitability of coastal lands for different groups of activities such as recreational, residential and commercial functions, there is an increasing demand among different stakeholders to benefit from these natural lands. The conflicts between the users, sometimes, lead to exclusiveness and limitation of public access to the shoreline. This article aims to recognize the main agents...

Potential Impacts of Offshore Wind Farms on North Sea Stratification

Advances in offshore wind farm (OWF) technology have recently led to their construction in coastal waters that are deep enough to be seasonally stratified. As tidal currents move past the OWF foundation structures they generate a turbulent wake that will contribute to a mixing of the stratified water column. In this study we show that the mixing generated in this way may have a significant impa...

Sea-level change and deep sea sequence stratigraphy: A Middle Jurassic siliciclastic strata (Kashafrud Formation), NE Iran

The Upper Bajocian- Lower Bathonian succession in the Kopet-Dagh Basin of NE Iran represents fluvio-deltaic to turbidite deposits. The Kashafrud Formation provides an excellent opportunity to study the interplay between deep-water sedimentation and syndepositional tectonic subsidence (or uplift) in the region. The effects of these processes caused sea-level changes, variation in depositional se...
